How to Assess Kindergarten Math Standards

Spreadsheets, lists, and manipulatives! OH MY! Are you struggling with your kindergarten math assessments? Learn how you can simplify your assessments by going digital! All you have to do is:

  1. download assessment slides.

  2. collect data using the checklist.

  3. analyze student data.

Assess Kindergarten Math Skills

What if I told you that you don’t have to get all the manipulatives out to do your math assessments?

You can collect data on how well your students can count, subitize, and recognize numbers using a no-prep digital math assessment.

Students observe the Google Slides presentation to understand what to do on each task. No need to have manipulatives!

You can use the built-in manipulatives on the assessment to assess your students on counting objects, cardinality, one-to-one correspondence, subitizing, writing numbers, and much more.

While the presentation plays, you can fill in the data spreadsheet that is provided.

Collect and Store Data

There are three different assessments that you can use throughout the year. Each assessment increases in difficulty to show how students are acquiring new math skills and strategies.

The spreadsheet has three sheets for each assessment.

In the first sheet, you will assess your students on beginning of kindergarten math skills.

The second sheet will be used to reassess in the middle of the year, after content has been covered.

The last sheet will be used as a final assessment on all the skills that students have learned throughout the school year.

Analyze Student Data

As your students are counting or writing numbers, you can input their data into the spreadsheet.

The student will complete the assessment while you simply add a checkmark if the student has shown mastery of the skill.

When the assessment is complete, you will be able to see how many skills the student knows because the total will automatically populate.

Being able to access the assessments digitally will help save you time and resources. You will be able to share data with colleagues and administration whether you are teaching from your classroom or teaching from home.

Feel less stressed throughout the year with this simple and comprehensive assessment resource. You will feel prepared and ready no matter where you are with all of your data stored in one place!
